About Jill
Jill Tabata comes from a musical family and has been playing piano since age 5, flute since age 10, and organ since age 13. She has been teaching private piano lessons since she was in college. She graduated magna cum laude with Bachelor of Music double degrees in Piano Performance and Music Studies from Northwestern University, where she studied piano with James Giles, David Kaiserman, and Elizabeth Buccheri.

She grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she studied piano with Rosy Wang at the Ellen Masaki School of Music, and organ with Gloria Moore. Her piano studies have also taken her to North Carolina to study injury preventive piano technique with Barbara Lister-Sink, as well as to Russia where she attended the American-Russian Piano Institute at Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory.

She has performed live on Chicago radio station 98.7 WFMT. Her awards include 1st place in the Hawaii Teachers Music Association State Piano Competition, Winner of the Morning Music Club of Honolulu piano Competition, Winner of the Punahou Concerto Competition, and Recipient of the Laura M. Winkelman Fund grant at Northwestern University.

She has served as organist at several churches including Calvary By The Sea Lutheran Church and Waiokeola Congregational Church in Honolulu, and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy and Church in San Diego.

She has been the staff accompanist at several schools, most recently for the choral program at Rancho Bernardo High School under the direction of Lisa Friedrichs. She has perfect pitch and does transcribing and arranging. She resides in Buckeye, Arizona, where she is available to accompany in a variety of genres including classical, sacred, opera, musical theater, pop and light jazz.
